Case Study: Phone survey / Rare pulmonary disorder

Question. A company with a treatment for a rare pulmonary disorder wanted to better understand a wide range of patient-related metrics.

Answer. Over a two-year period, Qessential conducted a quantitative series of five telephone interviews with 1,000 patients each to track changes in patient conditions over time. Careful training and experience with patients suffering with rare, chronic conditions were keys to obtaining this personal patient information in a confidential manner.

Results. In completing the nearly 5,000 surveys, we obtained a two-year response rate of 95%, which enabled the creation of a comprehensive symptomatic database for this pulmonary disease. This research led to new insights into the progression of this disease, the benefits of treatment, and the quality of life experienced by these patients over time. The university-led clinical study that this research supported was published in the peer-reviewed journal Chest.

Factoid

Owls utilize their amazing eyesight to help spot prey. In addition to the upper and lower eyelids, the Snowy Owl has a 3rd eyelid called a nictitating membrane. This opaque membrane protects their sensitive eyes from sun glare so they can hunt with more precision in the stark white landscape.
